Paul became interested in the martial arts while in Jr. High.  He did not take formal lessons but worked out with friends who knew karate.  After Jr. High he did not participate in the martial arts again until joining the Army.  Several of his friends were black belts in Tae Kwon Do and one trained the Special forces in hand to hand combat. After leaving the Army he eventually made it to the Police Academy where he met a student of Matsukaze Budo.  Paul began to study under Joe Lansdale at that time and has never looked back.  Paul has since earned his black belt in Shen Chuan (4th), Combat Hapkido (2nd) and Jujitsu (4th).  He is an Instructor in all three of these arts.  Paul is also a SPEAR Law Inforcement Instructor in Tony Blauer's SPEAR System.

    Paul has since moved to Rockwall, Texas and is working for the Rockwall Police Department.  He has opened a Shen Chuan Charter school in that area.  He is also teaching several of his co-workers defensive tactics.  Paul is in the process of setting up a program for Police Defensive Tactics and is studying the psychology of  the fight and how it affects people before, during and after the fight.  He will also be working with the Machados to bring ground fighting to the Shen Chuan systems.
