My martial arts training began in 1991 with the American Taekwondo Association. In 1993 I had achieved the rank of brown belt with the ATA. My instructor with the ATA was leaving and opening his own school, and I went with him. After joining the United States Taekwondo Federation, I received my black belt from the U.S.T.F.

Later that year, I received my 2nd degree black belt and instructor certification in Shen Chuan Streetboxing.

At the beginning of 1998, I received my 2nd degree black belt and instructor certification from the Independent Taekwondo Association. Late in 1999, I achieved the rank of third degree black belt in Maverick Taekwondo and the Independent Taekwondo Association.
